Carmelo Andriani was born in Bari (Italy) in a family of musicians. He distinguished himself in his studies with Camillo Grasso and achieved, at a very young age, his diplomas in the advanced courses of Violin and Chamber Music at the prestigious Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, with Felix Ayo and Riccardo Brengola.
Graduated with a scholarship, at the Accademia Chigiana di Siena with Uto Ughi, he distinguished himself with a diploma of merit at the Courses of Igor Oistrakh and Victor Pikaizen, in the Soviet Union.
He carries out an intense artistic activity in Europe, the United States, Canada, Mexico, China and Korea as soloist, soloist with orchestra and in chamber music ensembles, collaborating with artists such as Felix Ayo, Uto Ughi, Katia Ricciarelli, Nicola Samale, Giuseppe Patanè, Gianandrea Gavazzeni, Bruno Aprea, Piero Bellugi, Bruno Canino and Lior Shambadal, who conducted the concert of his debut with the Berlin Symphony Orchestra at the Berlin Philarmonie.
Carmelo Andriani is Professor of Violin at the Conservatorio N.Piccinni in Bari and is regularly invited to hold masterclasses in Italy and abroad.
He has recorded for the ‘RAI’, the ‘Discoteca di Stato’ and the ‘Irish Far Western’ labels. With the latter he recorded a CD of sonatas for violin and piano written for him by the Irish composer Tom Cullivan, reviewed as follows: “…The Gaelic spirit of Cullivan's music finds in Andriani a sincere, passionate performer, capable of obtaining intense and fascinating resonances of great expressiveness from his violin, also thanks to his masterful technique…”
For ‘Phoenix Classics’ he made, with pianist Pasquale Iannone, the first world recording of a CD with music by V. Mortari, noted by the most representative critics for “…the effervescent expressiveness of the performers…” (‘Music’) and for “...the indubitable expressive qualities of the two impeccable performers…in a CD not to be missed.” (‘Il Corriere della Sera’)
He also recorded for the ‘Tactus’ record label, with the Fondazione Orchestra Lucana conducted by Vito Clemente, a world premiere CD dedicated to Raffaele Gervasio, referred to by international critics as one of the most interesting records of the year. For the ‘Stradivarius’ he has published the CD ‘Recital’, entirely dedicated to the most representative violin compositions for Solo Violin.
For ‘Rusty Records’ in Milan he recorded ‘Carmelo Andriani plays Bach and Ysaye’. For ‘Brilliant Classics’ he has released a double CD with pianist Vincenzo Maltempo, containing works by the Italian-Irish composer Michele Esposito. His latest important project, also for ‘Brilliant Classics’, is a CD dedicated to Henri Vieuxtemps, with pianist Pierluigi Camicia, on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the birth of the great Belgian violinist-composer.
Andriani owns a splendid Marino Capicchioni violin, dated 1942, and a brilliant violin (Sofia 2009) made for him by master luthier Angelo Andrulli.
